"In the entire history of the maple syrup industry, Quebec producers have never sold so much syrup!" declared Serge Beaulieu, president of the Federation. "The $288 million in payments made to our 13,500 maple syrup producers is reinvested in the economies of the regions where they live and work. As we all know, the vitality of certain Quebec regions is directly linked to the strength of the maple industry. Maple syrup production is thriving, and the industry is crucial to Quebec and its regions."
2015: A record year for maple syrup production in Quebec
The 2015-2016 marketing year, which ran from February 28, 2015, to February 27, 2016, was a record year for Quebec maple syrup sales. Quebec has never sold so much maple syrup. With 104.3 million pounds sold and 97.5 million pounds graded and inspected, more syrup was sold than produced. That extra 6.8 million pounds in sales was made possible by the strategic reserve, which allowed us to meet growing global demand and maintain export markets. As the 2016 sugaring-off season gets under way, maple syrup reserves currently stand at 55.8 million pounds.
Since Quebec is responsible for 90% of Canadian maple syrup production, Quebec's banner year also drove Canadian maple syrup exports to a new record of 92.8 million pounds.
