TORONTO - Organic Week, the largest annual celebration of organic food, farming and products across the country, runs this year from September 16 to 24, 2017. Now in its eighth year, the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) is proud to once again partner with the Canada Organic Trade Association (COTA) and the Canadian Organic Growers (COG) to host this exciting national event.

"CHFA is proud to support Organic Week and shine a spotlight on the many benefits that going organic provides to Canadians," says Helen Long, president of CHFA. "The organic movement only continues to grow as we see new and innovative products being made available, making it easier than ever for Canadian consumers to choose organic."

There are many reasons to go organic. Canadians are looking for ways to reduce their exposure to artificial ingredients, synthetic pesticides and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), while also keeping in mind food choices that support the environment and animal welfare. Going organic allows Canadians to do this while also supporting thriving farms and communities, and contributing to the economy.

The simplest way to know whether a product on the shelf is made of at least 95 per cent organic ingredients is by looking for the Canada Organic logo on the label. This symbol assures Canadian shoppers that the products they're bringing home meet Canada's strict and world-leading organic standards.

"The wide variety of products offered makes it easier than ever for Canadians to go organic," says Michelle W. Book, CHFA's in-house holistic nutritionist. "This year, we encourage you to head to your local CHFA Member health food store to discover the many organic options available — from produce to pantry items — and to check out the events taking place in your neighbourhood in celebration of Organic Week."

CHFA has also come up with three quick and easy organic recipes for Canadians to celebrate Organic Week in their own homes. Try our Matcha Almond Butter Cups, Bulletproof Lavender Chai Latte and Sweet Potato Jerky — get these free recipes and step-by-step videos at chfa.ca.
