Today, McDonald's Canada and its Alberta franchisees announced the creation of as many as 1,900 new jobs across 140 restaurants in the province as part of the modernization of the guest experience underway nationwide. With an investment of $200,000 to 250,000 per restaurant, Alberta will be the first province to complete the transformation of participating restaurants.

"With the introduction of our Create Your Taste™ burger concept and the launch of our Restaurant Experience of the Future, we are transforming the guest experience and creating additional jobs in our restaurants," said Shelly Hansen, Regional Vice President, Western Canada at McDonald's.

"As we enter this new chapter for our brand, we're proud of the more than 9,500 people we employ in Alberta who, along with our newest employees, are helping us keep up with the demand as we innovate and deliver an unmatched guest experience."

Features of the new McDonald's Canada experience include:

Enhanced Guest Experience

Guest Experience Leaders are on-hand to engage with guests - from hello to goodbye - to ensure a memorable dining experience. The introduction of Self-Order Kiosks gives guests a modern opportunity to try their own hand at customizing their burger using the Create Your Taste menu and also to order at their own pace.

Investing in People

By the end of 2017, McDonald's Canada expects to grow to 100,000 people across its corporate and franchised restaurants. With new restaurant processes, enriched education partnerships and modern uniforms, crew members will enjoy simplified and innovative ways to grow their careers and guest relationships. This commitment translates to around 10 to 15 new positions at each participating restaurant.

Customized Menu Options

The new Create Your Taste menu lets guests build their own premium burger in five simple steps.  Guests can choose from nearly 30 options including five cheeses, 12 toppings, two buns, a lettuce wrap and nine sauces. Create Your Taste will be introduced to approximately 1,000 restaurants across Canada by the end of 2017.

Table Service

Guests can now experience table delivery complete with the warm and genuine hospitality McDonald's is renowned for. Once an order has been placed with Create Your Taste, guests can take a seat while they wait for one of the new dedicated wait staff to deliver their order right to their table.

Focus on Food Quality

McDonald's is continuing its mission to deliver the best-tasting food, using quality ingredients, many of which are sourced from Canadian suppliers. The next chapter will also advance McDonald's sustainability and Canadian sourcing initiatives, including McDonald's continued commitment to sourcing 100% Canadian beef, the majority of which is sourced from Alberta and Saskatchewan.

"McDonald's is innovating to meet our guests' changing needs and preferences and with the new Create Your Taste experience, they will have even more delicious options to choose from," added Hansen. "Through this brand transformation, we are committed to supporting our passionate Alberta franchisees, management and crew and are incredibly proud of the enhanced experience it will provide to our guests."
