Restaurants Canada says Manitoba budget a step in the right direction

The pledge by Manitoba Finance Minister Cameron Friesen to introduce the indexation of tax brackets and basic personal exemptions is a welcome announcement for Manitoba's business community.

"The budget, so soon after the provincial election, is unsurprisingly modest in its approach," said Restaurants Canada Manitoba-Saskatchewan Vice President Dwayne Marling. "But we're pleased with his promise to index tax brackets and basic personal exemptions. These changes send a strong positive message to Manitobans."

Combined with a promise to aggressively seek ways to cut red tape, the budget should increase consumer confidence in the province, which will support a growing economy that will benefit restaurants, bars, caterers, and all Manitobans.

"We look forward to working with the government to reduce the red tape that bumps up costs for not only the government of Manitoba, but also for businesses, community groups, and not-for-profit organizations," added Marling.
